GENERAL DISCUSSION CYCLING IN THE NEWS
On recent news items - including cyclist attacked by white van men on Wood Lane as he was impeding their progress - potholes - St Ann's rd pedestrian fatality.

MEDIA MATERIALS GROUP
Amanda is launching this group to promote aspects of cycling using audio / visual means. Amanda will write an email explaining the purpose and asking interested people to join an email group she has set up. Not specifically for hfcyclists, more LCC- London wide.

PROMOTING OURSELVES
The awareness of our group is probably not very high amongst the general population of local cyclists. John will print of some 1/3 A4 size flyers. Phil and Sophie will help disseminate them to libraries etc. Perhaps with dispensers. Good to hand out flyers to cyclists you meet if you carry some on you.

FACEBOOK
We now have a facebook page. If you're going to join facebook please consider how much personal info you want to share with everyone in the world.
see http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21516366544

WEBSITE
The design of the hfcyclists website has not changed much over the last few years. Phil has agreed to look at how it might be improved. The purpose is to attract people and give them the info they want, or that would be of interested to them. Any comments on the type of material to be on it gratefully received. Earlier in the day Louanne questioned the suitability of having the accident map on the website without fuller information.

CRAP CYCLE LANES
An interesting little book at £4.99. A collection of photos from the Warrington site

RIDES, EVENTS, ETC?
Phil and Sophie will lead a ride this weekend, probably along the Canal. Will wait to see weather forecast nearer day. At the moment Saturday looks more promising. Probably meet at 10.30am beside the canal under the Scrubs Lane bridge.

SHEPHERDS BUSH GREEN bus route consultation

With the presence of Westfield there are planned changes to bus routes. A bit strange that this consultation is only after the majority of changes are all ready prescribed by the planned road layout.

It would be of advantage to pedestrians and cyclists if buses no longer used the cut through at the apex of the Common. It would also be advantageous for the redesign of the common as otherwise there would be a lot of dead space near the apex. There will only be about one bus every three minutes using the cut-through, and these could be redirected around the roundabout, or otherwise dealt with. You may wish to make this point.

see www.tfl.gov.uk/busrouteconsultation and go to White City

SHEPHERDS BUSH GREEN exhibition / questionnaire

I would like to inform you that the first major public exhibition of the revised proposals will take place between Wednesday 23 and Tuesday 29 January inclusive. It will be on show in the foyer of the W12 Shopping Centre and the consultants will be there from 9.00am to 1.00pm on Wednesday 23 and Saturday 26 January to answer any queries. I should be grateful if you could encourage members of your organisation to visit the exhibition or view the plans on our web site www.lbhf.gov.uk during the week of the exhibition. A questionnaire for recording comments will be available at the venue and on the website. [From Steve Davies lbhf]

You might wish to comment that we expect cycle routes that are adequate for the number of cyclists expected, and that are integrated with facilities on the road. Also they should not invite conflict with pedestrians.

WESTFIELD
John Griffiths will be going to a meeting on their Cycling Strategy on 18 January when their latest proposals will hopefully be of benefit to cyclists.

RED LIGHTS
The LCC recommends that cyclists should obey traffic signals and the highway code. We felt it would be good if police activity was directed towards dangerous anti-social behaviour from all road users.

GREENFEST West London, planned for Sunday 15 June 2008
see www.greenfest.org.uk.

AGM of hfcyclists
We will delay the AGM / Annual Meeting until May to fit in with the new LCC financial year. It will be on 6 May 2008. If anyone has ideas for an interesting speaker, please let me know.

FUTURE MEETINGS
The group today enjoyed the more welcoming atmosphere of a home rather than the info centre. We will try meeting in peoples homes. The next meeting will be here again, and we see how it goes. Sophie will bring a cake.

EXPENSES
John had expenses of £19.08 refreshments and £10.58 web fee

DATE OF NEXT MEETING
