8.31 p.m - Special Motion No. 3 - Provision for Cyclists in the Borough

Councillor Boyle moved, seconded by Councillor Botterill the special motion standing in their names:

"This Council supports efforts made thus far to develop an acceptable environment for cyclists, but however notes that the overall provision is still far from adequate."

Speeches were made by Councillors Boyle (maiden speech) and Dawson in support of the motion.


Councillor Vaughan moved, seconded by Councillor Stanley, an amendment to the motion to delete all words after "cyclists", and replace with:

...... and reaffirms its commitment to developing and implementing a continuing programme of improvements".

Speeches on the amendment to the motion were made by Councillors Vaughan, Stanley, Burke and Davies.

The amendment to the motion was put to the vote:

FOR - 23
AGAINST -12
ABSTENTIONS - 0

The amendment to the motion was declared CARRIED.

Councillor Boyle made a closing speech on the substantive motion (as amended) before it was put to the vote:

FOR - Unanimous
AGAINST - 0
ABSTENTIONS - 0

The substantive motion as amended was declared CARRIED.

8.59pm - RESOLVED:

"That this Council supports efforts made thus far to develop an acceptable environment for cyclists, and reaffirms its commitment to developing and implementing a continuing programme of improvements".
