NOTES OF HFCYCLISTS MEETING

At the home of Julie Askins
105, Henchman St,
W12 0BN
020 8740 5453

PRESENT: Julie Askins, Philip Loy, John Griffiths, Phil Lamond, Susie Gretz.

APOLOGIES: Paul Alexander, Gwen Cook, Paul Saunderson, Sophie Gisbert.

CO-OPERATION WITH OTHER LCC GROUPS
We welcomed Philip Loy, the interim co-ordinator of K&C LCC, and the co-ordinator of Lambeth LCC to the meeting. We discussed how we could co-operate to make a more effective campaigning and social group. Possibilities include joint rides and newsletters perhaps. Philip also discussing with Westminster cyclists. And further afield?

Philip and others have contributed over the Westfield Cycling Strategy by giving input over Holland Park roundabout.

CAMPAIGNS
We discussed looking at campaigns that would give joint wins, as the Council may be more positive in promoting such things.

We could seek places where illegal parking in rush hours restricts both cyclist and other traffic flows. And use such places to press for tighter control. Any suggestions?

RB of Kensington and Chelsea have announced the trial of cyclists using some one-way streets in the opposite direction. LBHF are watching this trial with interest. Any suggestions of suitable streets for a trial here in LBHF?

HFCYCLIST STAND AT GREENFEST
On hfcycists / LCC stand we hope to meet and talk to many cyclists to get them involved in the LCC and our group. We want a very welcoming stand. Ideas of people writing down things they like about cycling in area. So that others can read on large banners. John will email people who have said they will be involved on stand. We hope to see many of you here.

SBG / WESTFIELD
John is part of a group developing a Westfield Cycling Strategy, which last met on 18 January 2008. So John was surprised to find out in the last few days that this cycling strategy and an implementation plan had been filed with the planning department on 23 April 2008.

A covering letter from the agents of Westfield explains that they are not going to do what is covered in the cycling strategy and implementation plan. Instead of share use of the space between the Central line station and the bus stops at the entrance to Westfield, they are apparently going to send cyclists in amongst the buses. [this has since been explained as a typing error, a confusion between what on-carriageway and off-carriageway means].

The plans also appear to include putting cyclists into danger when they enter or leave the carriageway. Particularly - expecting cyclists to leave the carriageway of the Uxbridge rd through the mass of people waiting to cross the road on a busy crossing outside the Central line station. With buses breathing down your neck. That is for the safe route avoiding the carriageway of the Holland Park roundabout.

In discussions with Councillors and officers there is hope that this may be remedied. John has recently met the new Chair of the planning committee, Cllr Alex Chalk, who has taken an interest in this, and Cllr Eugenie White continues to be interested.

John has filed a rapid objection to the planning application before any unknown closing date precludes this, and will file a more considered one. He will write to the relevant Councillors explaining the situation.

John will be writing a separate email to the group very soon concerning this and how each of you may file an objection concerning your safety. [Have since heard that comments / objections can be received on the planning site until 4 July 08, and may be received later]
