HFCYCLISTS MEETING
Tuesday 8 June 2004, 7.30pm in the Info Centre

PRESENT: John Griffiths, Louanne Tranchell, Bill Ogden, Alan Rowden

APOLOGIES: Alex Forrest, Chris Bainbridge, Simon Franklin, Mark Alderton, Rick Boardman, John Gilbert, Mo Morgan

GENERAL CHAT

We talked about voluntary sector organisations and sustainability and strategies in the Borough. And of the history of such things. Quite extensively.

PUBLICITY AND PROFILE RAISING

We had some publicity in the Hammersmith Guardian last week. Also Hammersmith and Fulham will be featured in a forthcoming issue of the London Cyclist Magazine.

OYBIKE

Upon phoning Gordon Keanan of the Urban Partnership Group, to check the status of OYbike for the magazine article, we find that it is making a come back. Perhaps it will be around in a month or two. With Bernie Hanning back on board.

To avoid problems for yourself, you may wish to avoid using cycle stands with an OYbike docking station attached. When you return to unlock your bike you may be in for a surprise. We have raised the possibility that it may be difficult or inconvenient to release your bike from under 1, 2 or 3 OYbikes tethered on top of yours. So far the organising authorities seem very unconcerned about this aspect.

If it arrives, and if you have any interesting anecdotes about how it is working, or interesting photos, please pass them on.

Our contribution to bike week. See http://www.hfcyclists.org.uk/wlgf.htm

A little over a week to go. There is a lot of energy in the general planning group for this event.

Now we need to sort out the details of what the hfcyclists stand will do on the day along with the cycling groups from Ealing and Wandsworth.

Those on the stand will talk to people encouraging them to cycle, and tell them the advantages. We will tell people of the possibility of rides and of nice places to cycle. We will give advice on how to cycle safely, and we will tell of a short ride for insecure cyclists which will happen a few days later, where practical advice will be given.

As a group we have achieved some things, and we will encourage people to join us and the LCC. In particular we want to attract people who will be active in this group.

Alan hoped we would do a Dr bike, but we had ruled this out earlier as we have no one to do it, and we considered it inappropriate for the event with the possibility of an unknown number of people hanging around waiting to be seen. Some of whom may not be satisfied when their bike is not actually fixed for them.

On the day some people are coming along at 11am and 11.30am to help set up the event. Louanne will be away. Bill will be involved.

If you can help on the day please let John know. It need not be for the whole time, but any bit will help.

We also need to get the last of the publicity out. If you would like to pick up a poster or some leaflets please contact John. Giving out a leaflet is a good way to meet other people and tell them about the group if they are a cyclist.

EXPENSES
John had expenses of £11.38 for wine, juice and food.
